I'm watching Belgium vs Australia at the moment. Geez I forgot how much I hate clay. The players can just rally all day, shot after shot, very difficult to get any variety in, to keep points shot. It's a pure battle of stamina and 'who gets bored' first. No wonder the orge is so successful in RG. He's trained as a tennis machine. I'm fine if Roger wants to never step on a clay court ever again

Interesting match yesterday between Canada's Denis Shapovalov and India's Bhambri. Denis was up 2 sets (hard fought) and had a match point in the third but went on to lose that and the 4th. His coach (who is also Canada's DC coach- Marty Laurendeau) had a chat with him about dialling it down a little bit and he ran away with it (6-1) in the 5th. It is a very fast indoor court and Bhambri played some aggressive tennis too so it was a good match to watch.
Today's doubles is going to be tough because Vasek is injured and Nestor is not in form. Hope they get the win.

Too bad Swiss Flag lost the doubles, although I am not surprised with Mirnyi on the other side of the net!

They are down 1-2 now... It's going to be tough for them to win the tie, although Laaksonen should really win his match on Sunday and maybe Marco can do miracle again! Very Happy

Canada won their doubles match with Nestor and Pospisil and are now leading the tie 2-1.

Shapovalov should be able to close the deal on Sunday. If not, they still have Pospisil in their back pocket for a fifth rubber. Looking good for Canada! Smile

Set 1 in the bag after a bit of a struggle.
Well done to Vasek and Nestor to get the doubles win.

Ramanthan yelling a lot and sometimes after he has served. But, he's putting up a good fight.

Denis does have that priceless asset of being able to come up with the goods when necessary as he proved in Montreal and just now came up with 2 fine serves at 2-2 30-30 in Set 2 in Edmonton.

Great poise shown by Denis coming back from 0-40 to force the tiebreak - which he then proceeded to win in good style!!  First 2 sets Canada.

One of the things that really strikes me about Denis is his ability to find the lines. I think it was Agassi who said that he aimed for the lines because the lines were put there to be hit (I am paraphrasing). But, over this year that I have been watching this young kid and he really hits the lines and the opponents are often left wondering whether they should challenge or they are shaking their heads in disbelief or frustration.

Yes and like Roger he backs himself - I remember one huge inside-out forehand that he hit at 30-40 on his serve at a really crucial point - he's a terrifically entertaining player to watch.  I love him.
