Laver Cup 2022 - Day 1: Roger's Last Match (Sep 23)

A wonderful send off for an amazing man. It's been a great 20 years despite the ups and downs. My favourite sports person ever. It will be interesting to see what he does next. Loved that he and Rafa played the last match; I really think there is a lot of affection and respect between them. Roger no. 1 forever.

It was so special to be part of this journey. Even though Roger was absent from the tour for the most part of past two and half years, it never felt he is away. He's been so consistent especially in the late stages of his career with finding a way back - fighting off so many injuries and massive heartbreaks - fear was always there but the thought of him ever retiring never felt real. Yesterday has to be one of the saddest days as an RF fan. Full support to Roger for his decision to retire but man you spoiled us. Yesterday was a reminder that we are all human - and helpless against time. It was also very sad to see how compromised he was on court. I wish you health and I wish all the members of this forum happiness. It's been quite a journey from rf.com days to finally Roger's retirement. The glue that held us together still makes us a pack but I am not sure if this forum will remain a busy public place like it used to be when Roger played. Every journey comes to an end. Just so sad but so grateful to be a part of this. Thank you Roger and thank you fellow RF fans. God bless you all.

What a wondeRFul (& emotional) farewell to our Maestro!      

I wasn't able to watch but in hindsight perhaps just as well as I doubt I would have been able to see much of it at all as the tears just keep on coming as they have done since he announced his retirement. 
 
I'm mostly ok with pictures but videos (here & on you tube) get me sobbing all over again.

Thank you Roger for all the memories.                   
 
You & your beautiful game were the greatest gift to tennis on & off the court & you kept on giving for so long. 
How lucky we all have been to witness the Federer Era! 
Tennis really won't be the same without you & to say I'll miss you is an understatement. 
Wishing you much happiness for this new chapter in your life.

I think I never saw a so moving farewell. Never. Very touching Rafa also crying. Everything was just perfect.

NADAL WITHDRAWS...

Nadal has withdrawn from the Laver Cup for personal reasons. He will become a father in the next few weeks:

Nadal: "I am not doing well. It's been a tough time for me, I hardly slept, it was stressful. Luckily everything is okay and I was able to get here."

"You will definitely see me and Roger play together again. We have a close friendship. I knew how important was this night for him and I could not miss it."

"With Roger's retirement, a part of me has left with him." 🥺

Note: Roger had mentioned earlier that he had called Nadal 10 days before announcing his retirement to ask him if he could be here, as there had been rumors, after the US Open, that Nadal might withdraw from the Laver Cup due to the imminent arrival of their child.

It obviously meant a lot to Roger to be with Nadal for his last match. And I think the same was true for Nadal, seing those pictures last night!
