Interesting Tennis Podcast with Christopher Clarey, talking mainly about Roger, obviously!

Clarey: 'Roger Federer is like this incredibly agile, well-preserved squirrel, and there are just nuts lying around everywhere and there’s no competition from the usual squirrels.’    

Thanks for the above cromar. I will listen to it today. I heard one David Law episode where he spoke very lovingly about the young Federer. I have read some comments about this podcast and that Clarey talks about Pele, Messi (C. Ronaldo ) as perhaps more deserving of overall greatest sportsman. I adore football and Messi is a God but I would argue that you cannot measure across sports. Each is incomparable in their sport. I also am sick and tired of hearing Roger referred to as the greatest Male tennis player. Usain Bolt is the fastest human- nobody disputes that, do they? To me Roger is the GOAT- not GMOAT.

ph∞be - I think you need to listen to the Podcast to fully appreciate the context in which Clarey made his comments about Messi and the likes. While discussing the extreme popularity of Roger, Clarey felt that considering the popularity of soccer/football around the world (in terms of number of fans) being far greater than tennis, he would have to put them ahead of Roger (not necessarily as a sportsman).

As far as the GMOAT, this is the new reality of 'politically correct' social media... and some will argue that Serena is the GOAT, as she has three more GS than Roger.

While he was getting back (officially) to the top of the world rankings on Monday, Roger was basking in the sun at the top of world in his beloved Swiss Alps #Mottahütte @ArosaLenzerheid
