Re: 2020 ATP Calendar & COVID-19 Impact
Clearly way off talking about 'normal' specifics but i wonder how the rankings will be applied, just pick back up from the first active event hmm? i was just scanning the posts here & did some rough calc...prior to o2, rf has 1k less to protect than the other 2, every little helps!
If NY goes ahead, rafa will need to be full tilt to protect.

Sorry if this has been posted before or isn't recent or something. I am in a fearful rush and no time to stop to check...

Re: 2020 ATP Calendar & COVID-19 Impact
Or maybe we should haDjve players punching each other on occasion? Have more of the "early Djokovic" behaviors?
Code of conduct too strict:it has been too lax to accommodate some of the top players, already, or two of them, probably. There is no game without rules, and umpires. The tension and excitement of tennis will be taken away. And what players would benefit from this "less strict" approach? P.S, Rosaline, last exchange we had there was quite a bit about history and it is amazing how such things stay with one. I enjoyed your knowledge of the discussed subject.

Toronto Rogers Cup Postponed to 2021
So, official tennis will return in two months!... That good news, albeit without spectators for the time being.
Meanwhile, Tennis Canada announced that the men's Rogers Cup, which was to be held in Toronto in August, will be postponed until 2021. The women's event in Montreal had already been cancelled back in April.
TENNIS CANADA ANNOUNCES THE POSTPONEMENT OF THE ROGERS CUP PRESENTED BY NATIONAL BANK IN TORONTO

Due to the coronavirus pandemic and following the measures imposed by various government officials and the ATP, Tennis Canada announced on Wednesday the postponement of the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank in Toronto. The tournament, which was scheduled to take place from August 8 to 16, 2020, will now take place from August 7 to 15, 2021. This postponement means that Toronto will host the men’s event in 2021.
The measures announced by the City of Toronto on May 15 do not allow Tennis Canada to organize a competition in front of spectators. In fact, the city had already indicated that it would not issue permits for events that welcome more than 25,000 people until August 31, a position that Tennis Canada fully supports.
A closed-door scenario evaluated, but dismissed by Tennis Canada
In recent weeks, Tennis Canada has carefully studied the possibility of holding a closed-door Rogers Cup presented by National Bank. Despite the ongoing deconfinement taking place in Ontario, this scenario continues to present several risks and obstacles, including the responsibility to ensure everyone’s health and safety, the complexity of the federal travel law, the financial repercussions and the strain on public health. After careful consideration, Tennis Canada decided that it was preferable to dismiss this idea.

Resumption of ATP Tour on August 14, 2020
The revised ATP Tour Calendar starting August 14, 2020
ATP Issues Revised Calendar For Tour Resumption
Jun 17 2020 - Press Release
The new-look ATP Tour calendar intends to resume on Friday 14 August in Washington, D.C.
The ATP, in collaboration with the WTA, ITF, USTA and the FFT, has issued a revised provisional calendar that sets a pathway for the resumption of the Tour for the first time since the suspension of professional tennis in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The new-look ATP Tour calendar intends to resume on Friday 14 August with the Citi Open, the ATP 500 event in Washington, D.C., followed by the Western & Southern Open, the Cincinnati ATP Masters 1000 event, to be hosted at Flushing Meadows, in the lead up to the US Open (31 August – 13 September).
Following New York, the Mutua Madrid Open and the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, ATP Masters 1000 events on clay in Madrid and Rome, respectively, will take place in September ahead of Roland Garros in Paris (27 September – 11 October), which will also feature a singles qualifying draw the week prior.

The calendar is subject to change and continued assessments will be made relating to health & safety, international travel policies, and governmental approval of sporting events. All events will be held under strict guidelines related to health & safety, social distancing, reduced or no fans on-site. The ATP continues to explore all options for additional ATP 500 and 250 events to be added to the schedule, should circumstances allow.
A further update on the intended schedule beyond Roland Garros, including a possible Asia swing ahead of the European indoor swing culminating with the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals in London, is expected in mid-July.
“Our objective has been to reschedule as many tournaments as possible and salvage as much of the season as we can,” said Andrea Gaudenzi, ATP Chairman. “It has been a truly collaborative effort and we hope to add more events to the calendar as the situation evolves. I would like to recognise our tournaments’ efforts to operate during these challenging times, as well as our players who will be competing under different conditions. At every turn, ensuring that the resumption of the Tour takes place in a safe environment will be paramount.”
The ATP Challenger Tour will also resume from the week of 17 August, in parallel with the ITF World Tennis Tour.
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULING
The revised calendar includes the Generali Open, an ATP 250 event in Kitzbühel, which coincides with the second week of the US Open. Top 10 singles players will not be eligible to compete in Kitzbühel unless they have played, and already lost, at the US Open.
FEDEX ATP RANKINGS
The FedEx ATP Rankings have been frozen since 16 March 2020. The ATP continues to monitor all global travel restrictions and general access to playing opportunities ahead of the resumption of the Tour.
As the situation continues to evolve on a weekly basis, a determination will be made in the coming weeks with respect to the most appropriate and fair way for the rankings to resume in parallel with the resumption of the Tour.

The Sunday final in Zadar was cancelled. But what of leg 4 of the tourney which I think is in ?Slovenia. Leg 3 was not allowed anyway - was projected for Montenegro, but they declared it did not meet their stringent anti-Covid-19 regulations.

I would expect the US and French Opens to be much more careful, but it will still be difficult to avoid infections.

Re: 2020 ATP Calendar & COVID-19 Impact
Djokovic does not believe in science. He does not believe in vaccin, he certainly thought there would be no problem at all, that this virus is only a small flu. As many authoritarian presidents in the world. He is responsible for what happened. The players who attended there were also absolutely stupid in doing so. Now, have someone asked how many people from the crowd were also infected? IMO there should be a heavy blame from the ATP to Djokovic and the others. Of course I wish them to recover well. But...

There were no precautions taken as they crowded together in dance events, as well as in playing basketball. As somebody wrote here, he definitely does not believe i, but rather in some other forms of quackery.
They showed pictures of Djokovic and others on CNN, as well as Patrick McEnroe, who was critical of the event and outcome.
Really, what were they thinking of? Helping, and who was in need? Some of the players, perhaps. This was Djokovic and fellow countrymen who thought this was a good idea.
Djokovic certainly looked very happy, but the outcome won't give him credit for organizing this tour.

Djokovic and the Adria Tour Fallout
Djokovic and the Adria Tour fallout
Playing the Adria Tour without any protective measures and distancing was ill advised, and the sight of players partying and hugging everyone a sad story for tennis, but the controversy that ensued, thanks to Djokovic's father blaming anyone else but his son for the mess, is lower than low.
It semed great fun at the time, but the Adria Tour has been a catastrophe... No distancing!
They even played basketball... much too close for comfort!
Happy then!...

The Adria Tour became a real-life Greek tragedy for Djokovic: he was the protagonist, he thought it was well-intentioned, but his hubris meant he lost touch with reality and caused his downfall. And with a sad 2020 twist: public health was risked. It was frankly indefensible.
— Matt Roberts (@MattRobertsTTP) June 23, 2020
Of the players who participated in the Adria Tour, four (so far) have tested positive for Covid-19, plus several people of their entourage... Wishing them all a speedy and full recovery:
- Novak Djokovic and his wife
- Grigor Dimitrov
- Borna Coric
- Victor Troicki and his pregnant wife
- Djokovic's fitness coach Paniki
- Dimitrov's coach Groh
- Grandchild of Zadar restaurant owner (where they partied)
Cilic, Rublev, Thiem and A. Zverev have tested negative, and most suggested they will now self-isolate for 14 days.
June 21 - Grigor was the first one to announce he tested positive...
June 24 - Djokovic's apology...
Dominic Thiem apologizing earlier today on Instagram, but still playing UTS tournament in South of France, having tested negative multiple times since.

What can we learn from the Adria Tour catastrophe, and what should Novak do next?
