Re: Davis Cup 2018
How many winds does Ferrer have? Amazing what an adrenaline can do. He breaks in the first game. So all he needs to do is to keep holding until the end, easy, no?
Such pity Kohli lost all the momentum straight away, he might be gasping for air himself after 4 sets, plus I think it's harder for him to maintain shotmaking level needed. Still, Ferrer is not very sure on his serve in this match, so it's not over yet, if Kohli can somehow keep going.

Oh WOW, against all the odds, having lost his serve, in the middle of a claystorm, Philipp The Brave breaks back. GOOOOOOOOOOOOO PHILIPPPP!!!

Those bounces and wind, very difficult conditions out there.

Are you kidding me? Making that run at 36 after 5 hours of play on clay? Such little chance to win a point, yet it paid off. Nerves got better of Kohli, lots of mishits in the last two games and now failing at the net twice. Ferrer serving for the match.

Unbelievable victory for Ferrer, congrats to him, huge moment for him. Commiserations to Kohli and German team, Kohli played pretty much his best, except in those close moments, in TBs and when he was closest to the victory, such pity for him, but he was up against it and he can be proud of his efforts today. Both deserved to win.

At the tie-break of the 3rd there was a very strange point, won by Kohli and - for me it was a bad decision - Carlos Ramos decided to replay the point. From that point on Kohli lost the t-b. Anyway, great victory from David. I am glad for him, and very sad for Kohli. Of course, if there was not RN at the spanish camp, screaming as he was the captain of the team, I would be more glad for the "old" David.

The interesting thing about the Spain/Germany tie is if it had been in Germany or off-clay, there is no way Nadal would have played. I just looked at the draw and Spain plays France in the SFs. The tie will be in France. What's the over/under on Nadal playing that?
Too bad for Kohli. I was really hoping he would win. And so much for Zverev doing anything against Nadal on clay. I think we're in for a rough clay season, folks. It will just continually remind me of Roger's IW and Miami disappointments. One Lousy Point. And how I hate TBs at the moment. Ugh!

Re: Davis Cup 2018
^^ The field on clay this year is beyond a joke. I think Nadal +clay has become a mental block for many players, doesn’t matter how old Nadal is and what form he is. Just like ND in 2015, the aura itself is too much. Players lose before they step on court. Well what can you do. Yeah incredible the difference that one point has and will make. Too early to say of course but I really hope that one pt won’t make the difference between year end #1 or 2.

The majors will probably determine it. Can Roger and Rafa defend their majors? Roger has defended his AO title. And it's probably a given that Rafa will unfortunately defend his FO title. So Wimbledon and the USO become very interesting. Roger probably has a better shot at defending Wimbledon than Rafa has defending the USO. I mean, what chance is there that Rafa will once again get the easiest draw ever at the USO? What are the odds that he won't play a guy ranked in the Top 25 again???
Of course, if Rafa cleans up on clay again, and wins a couple of the clay TMS, that will put a lot of pressure on Roger since Roger did not win IW and Miami. Honestly, if Rafa dominates the clay season again, I think it will be very difficult for Roger to end the year #1.

I wonder if the Laver Cup will influence Roger's decision to play for Switzerland.

I think Roger has officially retired from DC. If he's still playing in 2020 and opts to try for the Olympics, my guess is he would hope to be granted a WC.

Davis Cup starts tomorrow. Canada plays the Netherlands and I am really looking forward to the Second singles match between Denis and Robin. The courts are fast so should be fun.
