Thanks, tvradke, for the heads-up!  Looking forward to another reason for celebration: Roger reaching another milestone!  Sunny

But the first question that came to my mind was: Roger is not the first one to hit 10,000 aces, right?... So, I went to look:

  • Karlovic is the King of ACES - He hit the 10,000 mark during his match against Raonic at the Rogers Cup in Montreal in 2015 (he hit only 29 aces that day!). He now has a total 12,005 aces.

  • Second on the all-time list (since record keeping began in 1990) is Goran Ivanisevic, with a career total of 10,183 aces (retired in 2004) - There must be something in the water in Croatia! Wink Gif

  • Third, Roger, with 9,971 aces... and counting!

Obviously, the players' career length is a factor in those numbers, as when looking at the average aces per match, Roger moves down to the 8th place with an average of 11.5 - still pretty good, I must say, seeing is not a giant!

No. 1 is Isner with 21.2 aces per match, Karlovic is 2nd with 20.7 aces, Kyrgios 3rd with 15.1 aces and Raonic 4th with an average of 14.2 aces per match. So, some young and some not-so-young in there, but all pretty tall ranging from 6'11 (Karlovic) to 6'4 (Kyrgios). Roger is 6'1.

29 Slam Finals for Roger. Another record. Hoping he makes it 30 in New York in a couple of months. 11 finals at a Slam is a record for Men in Open and pre-Open eras. Previous most was 10 by Tilden at US Open, Roger at Wimbledon and Nadal at French Open. Roger is the first to get to 11. Maybe next year he will equal Martina's open era record of 12 finals at Wimbledon for men or women. The overall record incidentally is 13 finals also at Wimbledon by a Blanche Bingley Hillyard who played in the 1890s. I reckon that really shouldn't count with the challenger round system.

Which country has been the most dominating at Slams for the last 15 years?...

Switzerland  of course!  Impressive stats as shown on this graphic from the NZZ... Since 2003, a Swiss man was in GS Finals 33 times out of sixty: Roger 29, Stan 4!   Shocked

The 32-sets win streak (ended today in Montreal) is the best one Roger's achieved in his career, I think. His other best streak is 31, starting from 2006 year-end masters against Roddick to R1 at 2007 Dubai. Shocked

You are right, this was a career-high for Roger. Unfortunately, no sooner he had reached that record that it ended the following day, when he lost the first set of his third round match to Ferrer.

This is what I posted in the match thread yesterday, showing the all-time records:

^^^ What's amazing about that list is how nearly everyone is from the 70s and 80s. Crazy that Coria is on there (!!).

Thanks for the explanation, especially because during one of Roger's matches at the USO they. the comms were talking about breaking and holding serve, when a dialogue box appeared on screen stating that Roger had been broken 3 times at Wimbledon 2017 Now, Roger didn't lose a set, nor lost a game during the whole tournament! I wondered if I was hallucinaging, but I checked back on the recording, and there it was. That it was not commented on, corrected, or mentioned, made me wonder just how come they didn't notice the mistake. Maybe they were thinking of another time, but if it was J Mc and Fowler, then it's possible that it really actually was shown on screen. I was aghast.

P.S. Really appreciate the "walking scroll" of recent posts! What a great idea, and by what wizardry was it achieved? Smile
