2017 General Tennis News
LOL - Genie Bouchard was so sure the Atlanta Falcons would win the SB, she casually agreed to go on a date with some Twitter poster if the Pats won. Well, we all know what happened!
Of course, I think many folks thought the game was over when Atlanta was leading 28-3, but I guess you never count out Brady. Personally I was thrilled since I'm a fan of Brady too. What a couple of weeks for me. Roger and Tom both win career-defining titles in the most improbable of ways. Just incredible!

Re: 2017 General Tennis News
A pretty good day for Alexander and Misha.
Zverev Beats Gasquet For Second ATP Title In Montpellier
Teen surges to No. 1 in ATP Race To Milan; wins doubles crown with brother, Mischa Zverev
By ATP Staff
12 February 2017
#NextGenATP star Alexander Zverev captured his second ATP World Tour title on Sunday at the Open Sud de France in Montpellier, defeating home favourite Richard Gasquet 7-6(4), 6-3 in the final.
Victory sees Zverev surge to No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Race To Milan, which determines the #NextGenATP players that will qualify for the inaugural Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan, from 7-11 November.
It was a day of double delight for Zverev as he partnered with older brother, Mischa Zverev, to win the doubles crown, with victory over second seeds Fabrice Martin and Daniel Nestor. In winning his first doubles title, Zverev became the first player to win the singles and doubles titles at the same tournament since Lleyton Hewitt at Newport in 2014.
It is the first time a pair of brothers won the doubles title after one of them had won the singles since Andy Murray did the double with Jamie Murray in Tokyo six years ago.
"I'm very happy to win my first title of the year," said Zverev. "Obviously it was a very tough tournament, only one straight-sets match in the whole tournament, today, and it was not an easy one. I think it was a high-level match and I'm happy to get the win.
"It's great to win singles and doubles. I'm very happy the way we played. We only dropped one set in the tournament. I think it was a very successful tournament for the Zverevs."
Zverev fought his way to the singles title at this ATP World Tour 250 tournament, beating Aljaz Bedene, Jeremy Chardy and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in three sets before toppling the third-seeded Gasquet in 88 minutes.
The 19-year-old Zverev won his first ATP World Tour crown last September, when he beat two Top 10 players in Tomas Berdych and Stan Wawrinka to lift the St. Petersburg Open trophy.
The 30-year-old Gasquet was looking to win the Montpellier title for the fourth time, following victories in 2013, 2015 and 2016, also finishing runner-up in 2014 (l. to Monfils). But he could not find a way past Zverev in their first meeting.
The German raced away with the first set tie-break, before breaking decisively in the eighth game of the second set, converting his fourth match point as he served out victory.
"It was a difficult match," said Gasquet. "It was close during the first set. I had a bad start, he quickly broke me at the beginning of the match. It’s not easy to break such a good player twice. I managed to come back, but he broke again. I made a few mistakes. He hits the ball really hard on both sides and has a pretty incredible service. He deserves his victory today. But overall I’m happy about this week."

Well, I know it is not the place, but maybe one of you know where we can talk about the Fed Cup. Switzerland just won the tie against France.

Hi, "avasbar".
Well, let's wait till new news. It would be interesting to discuss the attitude of Timea (the bee, 2 MTOs!). And the unbearable Alizé Cornet. I am always reticent to open new threads.

According to rumours Novak Djokovic to become father again!
Gatto Luigi - 13-02-2017 - View: 31590
Tennis - Blic Sport reveals that the World No. 2's wife Jelena will give birth in August
A happy news has come for Novak Djokovic and his wife Jelena. According to the newspaper Blic, they are expecting their second child. Jelena will give birth in August in Monte Carlo, where they live and so is she is into her second month of pregnancy.
Novak is rumored to have announced it to his parents and brothers a week ago in the Kopaonik mountains, where they spent a few relaxing days skiing without Jelena, who didn't attend the Davis Cup tie against Russia neither. Anyway, it will take a little bit of time to have the confirmation of the news: only after the third month of pregnancy, which is the most difficult moment for a woman, Novak will eventually announce it like happened for their first son's birth Stefan. That time paternity had a positive effect on Nole, who had a fantastic 2015 season. Will it be the same this time?

Nick K on Dbls , Coaches and Roger
Knowing the general sentiments about Nick Kyrgios on this forum . I haven't opened up a thread for him but I found this presser interesting for all kinds of reasons. As per, Nick exposes some brashful arrogance but tempers it with exposing his vulnerable side too.
And of course he finishes in stye with all the right things about Rog.

Re: 2017 General Tennis News
There's a telling comment NK makes about wanting to find a coach that "cares about me first." He is known for mean spirited behavior and expects people to see past that to what? A deeper more caring man we've yet to know?
Nick's brashness reflects a set of core values he learned growing up ... the apple not falling far from the tree so to speak. That he trashed Donna Vekic to get at Stan is learned behavior. That was a deep, ugly cut made worse for how easily it came to him. Wouldn't be surprised if he didn't see a lot of that growing up. In a perverse twist it could be that such tactics were used on him to 'toughen him up.' Trying to enjoy himself is a start.
For my money, the best part of the interview is Nick highlighting his service and ROS games. They are superb. Not enough time spent on these aspects of tennis - especially with female players. If Nick could positively change the emphasis on these two aspects of the game from here forward, I will take my hat off to him.

Re: 2017 General Tennis News
Taking hat off to NK for his performance against Zverev. Didn't see any explosions. Good jump for NK on Zverev as this sets a tone for their budding rivalry. Plenty of shot making for a highlight reel. Did notice that he didn't press his serves into the same corners in set 2. Allowed Zverev to get into the match. Then Nickwent with some non-chalent killer points late in set 2.
Courier called the match and noted that Nick is very popular in the locker room and that would surprise a lot of tennis fans who might not have guessed it to be so.

Re: 2017 General Tennis News
If its learned behaviour it follows that he isnt inherently a bad guy at all and hence popularity is not so surprising. If its learned, he should be cut some slack- by which I mean understanding and compassion- instead of solely criticism. I think he really needs a mentor as much as a coach to guide him to bringing out his best side and unlearning that behaviour and his best tennis will follow. I think thats what he means by 'cares about him'. I think he's a softy inside. I like him despite his 'behaviour' because I see a confused kid who maybe really doesn't know the rules, or was taught to play life ugly and the confusion makes him immature. I think he's spot on with what he needs now though- the psychiatrist may have helped him a lot there.

The galley continues for the world number two. Novak Djokovic could be forfeited for the Miami Masters 1000 due to a right elbow injury.
Novak Djokovic may not be able to defend his title and the 1000 points that go with Miami (USA). Another bad news for the Serbian who, since his title in Doha, tied the tiles: defeat in the second round at the Australian Open Melbourne, in the quarter-finals at Acapulco and in the quarter-finals at the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells , where he was After having scooped the worst parts of the draw.
In California, the Serb had to accept to play anti-inflammatory most of the time, he who hates it, due to strong pains at the elbow. The doctors on the spot assured him that he could continue but, suffering too much, the world No. 2 flew Friday night to Monaco to consult his doctor.
This right arm was also a problem since the last US Open. The Miami Masters 1000 starts on Monday but Djokovic had a bye in the first round, so he would not have to play until next weekend if he finally decided to return to the United States.
