This speaks for itself
If you knew Steve Johnson Sr., read this (and have kleenex handy). How Stevie Johnson is coping with father's death:https://t.co/9ZSNgV5dlL

Dear Raonic: Does the concept over-thinking it mean anything to you? If you get your first serve percentage closer to Pete Sampras' range, you could stop thinking altogether. Might help your game. -wcr

You tell him wcr, he seems to treat tennis like a school subject.

Stan's season ends - "medical intervention" for his knee.
Here is his facebook post
Here is Stephanie Myles article which is basically quoting the release, besides noting that neither finalist of last year's US Open will be there.

Re: 2017 General Tennis News
I do wonder whether, not for the first time, Roger's decision to take time away and rehab and come back strong has encouraged others to do the same. But I also hope it makes coaches and parents sit up and take notice. Perhaps the tennis powers can make changes in the courts, balls, whatever to make the game less physical.

Re: 2017 General Tennis News
Now Stan Wawrinka has announced that he will miss the rest of 2017 for his knee. I guess he had/will have surgery on it.
Man, it's like Roger did it and now the floodgates are open!

Whoa, whoa! So sorry for Stan! Another one bite the dust!
2017 is turning out to be the most unsual (not to say weird) season I have seen in my life!
PS: I am trying to finalize my ranking chart to post an update, but at the rate the news are coming out, I will never finish!

Re: 2017 General Tennis News
By not playing Cincy, Murray will lose his top ranking and Nadal will automatically become No 1 after Cincy (if it doesn't happen already this week in Montreal).
Roger would need to gain at least 606 points between Montreal and Cincy to become No 2 and have Murray slide to No 3, which is doable. Number wise, the top ranking could also be attainable for Roger after Cincy, but is less likely to happen.

Re: 2017 General Tennis News
Stan is now recovering from surgery - apparently there was 2? Or maybe he had had one at another time and this was a second in general??

Re: 2017 General Tennis News
Well, that's too bad for Kei... but honestly I was getting sick and tired of him retiring every few matches. That has been going on for months/years.

Re: 2017 General Tennis News
With respect to this particular injury for Kei, it seems to have been sudden, happening in practise at Cincy - torn tendon -

Statement
http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/news/nishikori-right-elbow-ends-2017-season
Statement
“Two days ago during practice in Cincinnati, Kei hit a serve and heard a 'pop' in his wrist. We went straight to the hospital to take an MRI. Yesterday, we went to see a very renowned wrist specialist, who works with many of the MLB baseball pitchers.
“We saw another specialist today to get a second opinion. On top of that we have sent MRI results to three other wrist specialists to ensure we get several independent opinions from specialists. After consulting with all of them, it has become clear that Kei has a tear in one of the tendons in the right wrist.
“At this stage, we have elected not to do surgery and Kei is in a cast. After the swelling comes down in the next weeks, we will evaluate next steps. Kei will withdraw from all the 2017 tournaments and work hard to be ready for next year.”

Kei is so fragile. But really, what's up with all the injuries this year?

Re: 2017 General Tennis News
He is. Plus he always finds himself going the distance in matches he should win in straight sets. That combined with his grinder style and fragile body is a bad, bad combination.RogerNo.19 wrote:Kei is so fragile. But really, what's up with all the injuries this year?
I'm not altogether sure why all the injuries this year, but I truly think Roger 'calling it a year' last year somehow made it okay. I mean, Rafa had taken sabbaticals before and no one seemed to follow suit. I firmly believe that Djoker would have never stopped his 2017 if Roger hadn't done it last year. Stan had surgery, so he would be out either way. Kei may not have 'called it year' either had Roger not set an example.

Re: 2017 General Tennis News
Andy Murray has made the decision to play the US Open and should be arriving early next week. That will mean that Roger will be seeded third, 5 points behind Murray.
