In the WTA Naomi Osaka's agent stated that she won't participate in the Wimbledon tournament, but she will go for the Olympic tennis.

Wimbledon Withdrawals
Another Withdrawal from Wimbledon. I really feel sorry for David, he is so unlucky!
Wawrinka is still out as well... I was hoping he might be back.

It is unusual, isn't it. Roger is all right though. But I do share your view that such irregular tournaments may leave something to be desired. The female pouters should resume activities. She is supported no doubt by Serena, but she is doing it in a rather oblivious fashion. Now is not the time, and for me, though clearly Serena had issues in her early days she is also a bit spoiled now.

Another Winbledon Withdrawal
Raonic announced his withdral from Wimbledon on Instagram yesterday due to a calf injury. It's really unfortunate that he doesn't seem to be able to stay injury-free for any length of time! He hasn't played since Miami.

Unfortunate for Raonic that he is plagued by injuries. Perhaps it is his physique that plays into the matter and by that I mean more than mere height. His game has a lot more than serve and he has worked very hard. Canada can be proud of him.

Wimbledon/Women: Saw Ons Jabour oust Venus Williams, who seemed a to have more upper body muscle or weight.
Jabour has a very nice game, and some very effective shots. She plays with that freedom that is not all about muscular effort, and has quite a good serve especially out wide. Then she has the 'touch" placing balls with feather touch from the baseline, near the net. She moves well, and I like all aspects of her game.

Re career credits, in a discussion two commentators showed Murray's achievements, and they listed his grand slam titles, and also times when he made finals, or semifinals, not sure about the latter.
His Olympic medal was not mentioned.listed. Now this may have been a quick summary, but I noted that there were no lists of "big titles" a la Djokovic. Clearly something he was doing or somebody did it for him to advance his profile, and grow the noise around him, which is pretty constant. But this is his team's style, although at times some media tend to fall under this methodology, too.
At least he is not handing out treats to media during press interviews.

I was surprised to see that Andrescu was playing. Was I wrong that she was not going to play or did she change her mind? But she lost, of all people, to Alize Cornet, who has been around for a long time and whom I never considered to be a strong contender.
Andrescu slipped a few times, too, but she just lost after making a series of mistakes. That could be related to her uncertain footing, of course.

A certain Ivanisevic into the Hall of Fame, and along with that the stories of how he won Wimbledon, from having a concurrent bad shoulder and admitting to bad play. Then he created "3 personalities for himself" to explain his win. Reminds me of the kind of reasons for winning that some others have used, such as "great mental strength" and "channeling the wolf".
It is said that why Goran won is still unknown. Cilic, coached by him also won a Grand Slam title and it happened after Cilic was suspended for some infraction of the doping rule.
Did anyone see that Wimbledon final--against Safin? When was it, 2001?

Gael looks pretty stunning in that purple suit! Knew he was going to do something special...
Elina's dress is also very creative - these are actually pants under the veil. Nice matching outfits!
A new name in the WTA!

I saw a lot of that 2001 Wimbledon final. It was held on a Monday instead of Sunday because of all the rain. It seemed it had a lot of the "common folk" rather than the normal quieter crowd. Similar to what they would get on those occasional Sundays when they had matches due to too much rain. And it was against Rafter, not Safin. I remember really wanting Rafter to win so I was unhappy with the result. But the fans were no doubt cheering for the underdog Ivanisevic and he was milking it for all it was worth. I felt really bad for Rafter.

^^^
I find myself thinking about that too (the sponsors). But he is an iconic figure and beloved all over the world, I am sure the Swiss brands won't part with him, I don't know about Barilla, and Wilson.
I don't go to FB either. Salute STRIKER.
