Re: RF Schedule 2018
I would be very surprised if he did not try for the n.1
We are not talking about radical or desperate measures. It's just another tournament, that, by the way, he has been playing regularly for years.
It makes no sense not to try, knowing that the difference in points is so small. Especially if we consider the large number of points he will have to defend later.
Any result that is not again a perfect performance, will keep him away from # 1. And, let's be realistic, it's difficult to bet on another double championship. Possible, but unlikely.

Totally agree!!

Laureus Award Ceremony is on February 27. If Roger is not in Dubai i will be happy to see him there. He deserved to win the Sportsman of the Year Award.

So excited!!! Nothing on the tournament Twitter yet though, but so excited if true! I have tickets and I'm waiting for official confirmation to buy more tickets. Would be my second time seeing Rog live after missing him in 2013 and 2016 so fingers crossed

Extra tickets have been bought. Way up high, but I'll be there and for Thursday I already had courtside tickets. I'm so so happy I get the chance to see him again. Can't quite believe it yet! :bounce:

No guarantees, but he usually plays at night. In 2012 and 2013 he played only night matches

Re: RF Schedule 2018
I guess now we know the answer to the question: Does Roger care about the #1 ranking?

Re: RF Schedule 2018
Very good decision in my opinion. After Rotterdam there will be many more resting time (till the Match for Africa 5 exhibition) that it would be after Dubai. And, after all, he doesn't need to change time zones after he has spent some time in the Switzerland.
However, I must admit that field in Rotterdam is surely stronger that it will be in Dubai. But I believe in Roger that he finds his form from the AO to ensure No. 1 Ranking once more. There is also a possibility to make a new record of ATP 500 tournaments won (now he is tied with Nadal on 19). If he does that, he ensures the No. 1 Ranking till at least the Indian Wells Masters.
Someone also indicated a coincidence with duration of this year's AO final. It lasted 3 h 02 min but because Čilić called for the Hawk-Eye decision on the final point, it lasted 3 h 03 min on the end. That means 303 instead of 302. Coincidence or not, we will see.

Re: RF Schedule 2018
Richard Krajicek was just on a Dutch talk show. He said he received an email from Tony on Monday right after the AO final that Roger might be interested in playing. On Thursday/Friday the business side of things was finished, but Roger still wanted to test his fitness. He would train Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (today) and then he would let him know this evening if he really was ready to play. Finally at 6 pm this evening Richard got the call that Roger was feeling good, training had been good and that he would come to Rotterdam.
Personally I thought it was really interesting that Roger was thinking about playing Rotterdam right after the final. Can't wait!

Re: RF Schedule 2018
Krajicek must be in seventh heaven, as I am!... We are going to see Roger play again soon!
I am not too surprised, actually, to see Roger going to Rotterdam as it fits much better in his schedule. With the Match for Africa, the timing with Dubai was just unworkable.

07 february 2018
Excerpt:
"It is not yet known when Roger Federer will play his first game in Rotterdam. Most likely this will be on Tuesday or Wednesday evening.
He is entered on the basis of the A + wildcard, which each ATP 500 tournament has available for a select group of players, to make a last-minute entry possible. The other wildcards are given to Felix Auger-Aliassime, Thiemo de Bakker and Tallon Griekspoor."
