Oh dear DT, sounds rather grim. What happened in the end?
I couldnt see anything today but really happy David Goffin won his match and ditto Kyrgios.

Sweet pic of Hewitt in Nick's arms!
I am really pleased with the way the other ATP players including Roger have not been too hard on Nick (not sure how Stan feels about all this). I feel that Nick may begin to understand that there is a fraternity that may be helpful to him. I can't say the same about the WTA- what a shambles that is.

Re: Davis Cup 2017
Haase lost the next set as well, but got his nerves together in the decider (or perhaps his opponent ran out of gas, I didn't pay too much attention by then), so his country goes on (3-1 on agg.). Can't even tell what round it was, or rather what group that was.avasbar wrote:Oh dear DT, sounds rather grim. What happened in the end?

I was watching Giraldo's struggles now against Garin, after making the mess out of TB in the 4th set, squandering couple of MPs. Was watching only on scoreboard as there was no stream, but seems like it was quite a tussle as well, with rain delay in it for more drama as well. Giraldo won the decider 6-3, coming back from down an early break, so Colombia got through 3-1 as well.
As for Australia, sort of glad they won (more for Lleyton and past Australian champs, than for current crop), but I hoped Sock would do better in singles, but felt like Thompson was really inspired.
Watching now bit of Kerber, but my eyes start hurting, so I'll go to sleep, I think. Anyway, sorry for late reply. I didn't know or I forgot it (quite possible with me) that Goffin's brother is coaching Pavlyuchenkova, I find that fact quite amusing.

He'd said he struggled with the isolation of the Singles and how much he enjoyed IPTL for the team
participation. DavisCup is a big step up from that and he is in a happy place this year compared to last. Im really pleased for him but find it all still very threatening for Roger! Dont get too happy Nick, till Fed gets Wimby8!

Re: Davis Cup 2017
The Davis Cup Semi-Finals are all set for September. A great win indeed by Australia (vs USA) in the QF's, and by Belgium (vs Italy) as well.
And the draw for the World Group Play-offs has also been made. Switzerland to meet Belarus at home. Wonder if Stan or Roger (don't think so!) will lend a hand to keep Switzerland in the World Group, seeing they are playing at home?... As a side note, the Swiss ladies will also face Belarus in the Fed Cup semifinals later this month, but it will be in Belarus for them!

Brasil will play Japan in Japan, hummmmmmmm: not this time!
Just to say that I agree with avasbar in the hope about Kyrgios. He is a so good player, beautiful to watch.

Might I suggest "Ladies of the Court" by Mark Mewshaw? One of the most informative tennis books I've read. A real eye opener about the women's tour.

And so you should particularly with Hewitt as his mentor. Hewitt might relish some revenge for how Roger turned the tables on their h2h. He never won a slam again once Roger hit his stride.

Re: Davis Cup 2017
I'm watching Belgium vs Australia at the moment. Geez I forgot how much I hate clay. The players can just rally all day, shot after shot, very difficult to get any variety in, to keep points shot. It's a pure battle of stamina and 'who gets bored' first. No wonder the orge is so successful in RG. He's trained as a tennis machine. I'm fine if Roger wants to never step on a clay court ever again

Re: Davis Cup 2017
Interesting match yesterday between Canada's Denis Shapovalov and India's Bhambri. Denis was up 2 sets (hard fought) and had a match point in the third but went on to lose that and the 4th. His coach (who is also Canada's DC coach- Marty Laurendeau) had a chat with him about dialling it down a little bit and he ran away with it (6-1) in the 5th. It is a very fast indoor court and Bhambri played some aggressive tennis too so it was a good match to watch.
Today's doubles is going to be tough because Vasek is injured and Nestor is not in form. Hope they get the win.

Too bad lost the doubles, although I am not surprised with Mirnyi on the other side of the net!
They are down 1-2 now... It's going to be tough for them to win the tie, although Laaksonen should really win his match on Sunday and maybe Marco can do miracle again!

Re: Davis Cup 2017
Canada won their doubles match with Nestor and Pospisil and are now leading the tie 2-1.
Shapovalov should be able to close the deal on Sunday. If not, they still have Pospisil in their back pocket for a fifth rubber. Looking good for Canada!
