2017 ATP Rankings & Schedule
With his wonderful win today at the AO, where he lifted his #18 GS Trophy, Roger is back in the Top 10 (+ 7) !
Considering that we were looking at a possible ranking down to the 20's, or even 30's, just a few days ago, this is really marvelous and a tremendous achievement. So well done !
I shall write a more extensive update later on. I am too excited right now, and sleep deprived to do that now.

Thanks cromar. Tight 7-10 isn't it. Cmon Rog, let the good times roll!
Re: 2017 ATP Rankings & Schedule
And the great news is that by virtue of Roger winning, he will automatically qualify for London as long as he remains in the Top 20!!

Really Steerpike? Can you explain for us please how that works? As Lil-jay points out, 7-10 is pretty tight. Personally (please, no more lasting injuries) I'm expecting Rog to reach Top 3 by Wimby, so I've no doubt he'll be at the WTFs again, but how is it already settled by this one result?
Thanks
Thanks

I think it's some rule that if a player wins a slam they're guaranteed a WTF spot, even if their ranking isn't in the top 8. I don't think it will be a problem for Roger anyway.
from Wikipedia (which I know isn't the best source but it was all I could find):
Qualification
There are eight players or teams, and playing is mandatory except for injury or other good cause.
Qualification is as follows:
(a) the top seven players in the ATP rankings (b) up to two grand slam winners ranked between 8 and 20 (in order of ATP ranking, if any such players exist) (c) the next players in the ATP rankings, until the quota of eight is reached.

Re: 2017 ATP Rankings & Schedule
Strictly mathematically it is not settled. 2000 points don't guarantee a top 20 finish and you could potentially have more than 1 slam winner outside the top 7 (unlikely but not impossible). But Roger had 1980 points coming into Australia and was ranked 17th. So chances are he will definitely finish in top 20 whether he wins another match all year or not. I reckon he is 99% certain to qualify for WTF at this point. They speeded up the courts at WTF a little bit last year. Hopefully they speed it up even more this year. It would be fun.avasbar wrote:Really Steerpike? Can you explain for us please how that works? As Lil-jay points out, 7-10 is pretty tight. Re: 2017 ATP Rankings & Schedule
Hello again tv !
Yep, there may be a few surprises this year in store, I'm looking forward to it.
WTF and particularly AO have set the tone for others to follow tho I dont expect Wimby to do so this year - they will deliberate a long time ;-) - and with all these #nextgen giants with their power-assisted serves joining the ranks, not to mention plethora of current big servers like JJ and Raonic etc, they may decide to hold off indefinitely.
